Rock 'n' Roll Jewellery Designer Hosts Carnival Party in Belfast

29 June 2010

Exclusive stockists of Stephen Webster Silver in Northern Ireland, Lunn’s of Victoria Square is hosting an invitation only, funfair-themed evening to launch the latest Stephen Webster collections in Ollies at The Merchant on 30 June.  The designer, whose muses include Christina Aguilera, will be in attendance at the exclusive event to tell fortunes and join in the celebration of the new collections, which include the super chic 'Astro Ball' pieces.

The fabulously quirky ‘Astro Ball' pendants (£495) are already hailed as the ultimate must-have accessory for 2010 and are among the best of what has become an exciting annual collaboration between Stephen Webster and Swarovski. Reflecting each of the Zodiac signs; these dazzlingly glam pendants combine striking jewel colours of yellow topaz, blue sapphire, jet black and violet with intricately detailed gem-set motifs. Set in yellow gold plated and blackened silver, these jewel encrusted figures are a sparkling reference to each astrological sign.

And that’s not all, following the success of the Jewels Verne fine jewellery collection; Jewels Verne Silver is fast becoming a favourite among Webster fans and will also feature at the event.  Drawing inspiration from French author Jules Verne’s fantasy adventure novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" this aquatic themed collection features the fantastic and fascinating creatures encountered during this underwater odyssey.  Lobster earrings, Octopus toggle bracelets, Shark jaw clasps and engraved fish tails combine with pearls, rose gold rivets and blackened silver to create this exceptionally intricate collection of Victoriana inspired pieces.

Against a colourful carnival backdrop designed by SBD Events, party-goers can expect all the fun of the fair with grabber machines filled with a host of prizes, including Stephen Webster jewellery, as well as cocktails from Grey Goose. Paloma Faith has been confirmed as DJ for the evening, adding to the kudos and glamour of this fabulously fashionable event, which is guaranteed to be one of the most talked about in 2010.

Happy Birthday CoCo!

25 June 2010

The award winning CoCo restaurant on Belfast’s Linenhall Street this month celebrated its first year of business and marked the occasion by throwing its doors open for a very stylish birthday party.

CoCo, which was founded by chef Jason More and partner Yvonne Gray, has placed itself firmly on Belfast’s culinary map, proving to be one of the places to see and be seen in.  Providing guests with a fantastic dining experience and delicious dishes such as the signature tom yum, salt & chilli fritto misto and honey roast pork belly, the restaurant’s success hardly comes as a surprise.  Jason brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, starting as a sous chef to Robbie Millar at Michelin-starred Shanks restaurant and moving to the 3* Michelin restaurant Le Gavroche working under Michel Roux.  Jason’s delectable dishes are complimented by Yvonne’s flawless décor, the textured wallpapers, bare brick, mismatched furniture and fashionable artwork, all adding to the unique dining experience.

Overwhelmed by the support of his customers to date Jason said, ‘It has been a fantastic year for CoCo and we are so delighted and thankful for the response we have had from our customers. We work hard to provide outstanding service, atmosphere and of course the highest standards of food so our diners really have a great experience in the restaurant and truly soak up the ambience of the place.  Here’s hoping our second year will be even more successful!’

The official celebrations took place this month and guests  were  treated to delicious nibbles from the CoCo kitchen, refreshing ice cold Peroni beer and the trendiest tunes from DJ Steve Simpson.

Networking is the Key to Increasing Net Worth

08 June 2010

Leading wealth management company CBS Astor Buller this month continued its series of networking events for young professionals and business owners in Northern Ireland. The events, ‘Network = Net Worth’, which take place monthly, (this month in the Downshire Suite of Down Royal racecourse) were the brainchild of CBS managing director Michael Corey, who works with owners and managers from SME’s and large companies  right across Northern Ireland and beyond.

He said: “It is vital for senior managers and self employed individuals or owners of small-medium sized companies to mingle – in person, not just online - and chat about business with one another as it can only help create ideas and generate trade. It is hugely important to promote the next generation of business leaders and decision makers, as networking helps to improve their own commerciality as well as increase trade for their firms, which is necessary in the current climate. At CBS, we are firm believers in networking and have seen our own business grow through vital connections and professional partnerships forged through introductions and networking.”

Whether in pursuit of new business or looking for a job, networking is crucial – particularly in difficult economic times. Because companies are advertising less and spending more time on improving operational efficiencies rather than seeking new partners or suppliers, word-of-mouth communication is likely to be an individual’s best bet for gaining a presence in front of the people they want to meet.
For those who think this seems a little contrived and too ‘All-American-Business-School’ for Northern Ireland - not so, say key networkers. Corey advises: “If you take a genuine interest in the person you meet and their interests and not just hone in on how they can benefit you, then chances are the relationship will step out of the shallow waters and into longer term friendship or business relations. This is Northern Ireland after all, so it’s likely you will have mutual connections somewhere!”
On the subject of social networking versus networking socially, Corey said: “We’re all for social networking online too, but nothing can beat the value of a face to face conversation. Backing it up with online communications is vital, because staying in touch is just as important as the initial meeting or introduction.” And networking isn’t strictly a business affair, as personal networking is a good way to meet people who share similar interests as well.

The reality is that networking is hard work. It takes time to research opportunities, attend events, listen genuinely, and follow up. But, it is proven to work for focused individuals, creating opportunities and establishing deep relationships with the people or communities that can also help them to succeed.
The next ‘Network = Net Worth’ event takes place at Down Royal Racecourse on Friday 19 June from 6-8pm. Those wishing to attend should contact Laura Pollard at Astor Buller on or call 02890668778

Nicola Bleakley Banks on Move to Unislim

01 June 2010

Nicola Bleakley, sister of gorgeous ‘One Show’ host Christine Bleakley, has recently given up her nine to five role at a bank to host the Unislim classes that helped her battle her own bulge and lose an incredible seven stone in only one year.  Her Unislim drop in centre will be held in Jurys Inn on Thursdays where head chef, Dave Barley, will prepare scrumptious Unislim meals every week for the slimmers should they wish to dine in the hotel  bar or restaurant.
Barley said he was inspired by the choice and variety on the Unislim menu plan, commenting, “Anyone planning on coming along to the drop in centre in Jurys Inn on Thursdays are in for a real treat!  The recipes are really different and fresh and will completely challenge the traditional ideas of tasteless, boring ‘diet food’.  I am cooking from an extensive Unislim menu, which means Unislimmers can still enjoy ‘dining out’ whilst keeping to the Unislim lifestyle. Each delicious dish will be healthy, fresh and guilt free!”
With her own success story behind her, Nicola is a perfect role model for thousands of slimmers in Northern Ireland, and is looking forward to her new responsibilities inspiring potentially thousands of women to take the plunge and give up bad eating habits for good. She said: “At just 18 years of age, I found myself full of bad habits, going to bed every night with a full fat fizzy drink, a bag of crisps and some chocolate. I wasn’t doing any exercise either, so the maths are pretty simple – I was 17 ½ stone!”
Unislim has had huge success and is Ireland’s longest running slimming and health club.  Still operating as a family business, with 69 year old founder Agnes McCourt from Warrenpoint at the helm, the business idea was born when Agnes rounded up a few friends to lose weight with her after the birth of her third baby.  Today, the healthy lifestyle plan incorporates low-GI food with increased exercise for a real change and sustained weight loss that can be kept off.  And, having won Slimmer of the Year in 2004, Nicola is living proof of the long term results!
So whether you are inquisitive about the Unislim programme and want to sample the wares or if you’re a member, why not pop into Jurys Inn on a Thursday for some guilt free food that you can feel good about eating? Unislim classes take place all over Ireland.
