Edgy Design Pieces Sought for Exclusive Citra Showcase

27 April 2011

To celebrate the launch of its zestier new Citra flavour, West Coast Cooler is searching for up-and-coming designers and creators of beautiful things to take part in the Citra Showcase – an exclusive exhibition highlighting the very best in innovative, edgy design.
The brand, which will launch its new flavour at a chic event this month, is hoping to attract creations from graduates and undergraduates –  as well as newly established designers and design businesses in the fields of fashion, textiles, interiors, jewellery, accessories and millinery.
The edgiest, most innovative piece will be selected as the Citra Showcase Winner and then sold, in limited edition, in a leading retail store. The winning designer will also benefit from mentoring and marketing advice to help turn their design talents into commercial reality.

Less sweet than its sister products, Rose and Original, Citra is refreshing with clean, citrus notes and a wine-based taste. It is this zestier taste which has inspired the Citra Showcase.
Sarah Fawcett, Brand Manager for West Coast Cooler at Dillon Bass said: “Citra is a refreshing wine cooler with hints of citrus. It’s zesty and edgy and the Citra Showcase project, which will celebrate the talent of upcoming local designers, is a perfect fit with the brand. We’re really looking forward to seeing some of the cool designs out there and would encourage would-be designers to contact us via Facebook or get in touch with our design talent scouts.”

If you - or someone you know - has a cool, edgy product design or finished product and you’d like to be part of the Citra Showcase, please call Fiona Bonar on 028 90408279 for further information.

DIET COKE DESIGN AWARD GIVES STYLISTA'S A PASSION FOR FASHION

20 April 2011

Following on from its incredible success in 2010, Diet Coke has once again teamed up with Belfast FASHIONWEEK to launch the Diet Coke Design Award, which will seek out and reward aspiring design talent from a student designer or a style fan with a passion for fashion. And just as Diet Coke announces its global design collaboration with fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, who has created three limited edition aluminium bottles for the brand this Spring, this competition once again celebrates the brand’s links to all things stylish across Ireland.

Fashion lovers and design students from colleges and universities throughout Ireland will be invited to enter the prestigious competition which will bring one lucky winner some fantastic opportunities in fashion including having their design made into a commercial garment by leading couturier Una Rodden; as well as seeing it on one of Ireland’s biggest catwalks at Belfast FASHIONWEEK and then having it photographed by top fashion photographer Khara Pringle. On top of this, the winner will also win a scholarship to attend a course at the London College of Fashion which will further develop and hone their design talent. Entrants will be asked to put their raw talent to work by designing a fashion forward and unique garment which captures the ‘Love it Light’ attitude to life and a panel of leading fashion experts will judge entries to choose the winning look.

Nora Torpey, Senior Activation Manager at Diet Coke is delighted to be launching again, “We were really overwhelmed with the interest and the standards in last year’s competition so we’re very  pleased to be able to run with it again this year and we’re looking forward to seeing all the fantastic entries. The design award ties in really well with our global Karl Lagerfeld collaboration and we’re excited to announce that his limited edition Diet Coke bottles will be available exclusively for audience members (and of course each of our design entrants) at Belfast FASHIONWEEK.”

Last year’s winner, Julie Watson from County Fermanagh commented, “I entered last year because although I’m not studying or working in fashion, design has always been a passion of mine and I couldn’t believe it when I won. I learned so much from Una Rodden when I worked alongside her on the production of my winning design and to see my design on the catwalk at Belfast FASHIONWEEK was just incredible. I am due to attend my course in London in July this year and I cannot wait to get stuck in and learn some new skills!”

Those wishing to enter the competition should download the brief and the application from www.belfastfashionweek.com. Closing date 09 September 2011.

For more information on the competition and how to enter, please contact Belfast FASHIONWEEK Tel: 028 9032 4437.

FASHION, FIZZ AND FABULOUS STYLE
Appletiser Stylefix Set To Take Centre Stage This Year

12 April 2011

Appletiser StyleFIX exploded onto Ireland’s fashion scene last year with an all-Ireland fashion tour which gave fashionistas a fabulous fashion-fix.  Set to continue into 2011, Appletiser has once again teamed up with Ireland’s top shopping destinations to bring StyleFIX back on the road kicking off in Mahon Point, Cork on 16 April.

Audience members at the events, which will take place in shopping centres and other locations throughout the country, will enjoy high-impact fashion shows throughout the day showcasing the hottest trends of the season on the catwalk. With a whole host of stylish stores, from A Wear to French Connection, Oasis to Zara, Monsoon to River Island and department store Debenhams, Mahon Point’s StyleFIX will have something to tickle everyone’s fashion fancy. From beachwear to classy casuals, vintage delights to party looks and every accessory in between, no stone will be left unturned.

Those attending will also be able to sample delicious complimentary Appletiser while receiving free advice and mini make overs from Seka Cosmetic’s professionals. Seka Cosmetics is the first cosmetics company in Ireland to have their organic products made in Ireland and each product is named after something to do with Ireland such as ‘Shamrock’ or ‘Emerald Isle’ eye shadows.

Stylist and show organiser Cathy Martin says fashionistas will have a lot to mull over while shopping.  “Spring has most definitely sprung and we are well and truly ready for a new trend injection!  This season welcomes a palette of whites and lights which continue on from last year’s nudes and pastels, but the sharp contrast this summer is in the bold, bright colours which also abound. Rip up the rule book and don’t wear just one bright colour – mix sunshine yellows with tangerine oranges, while acid pinks and ruby reds will also look great together.

Many of the styles take inspiration from the 1970’s – so flare as much as you dare! By day, choose high-waisted, wide-leg jeans or flares; neat, buttoned up bow-blouses, roll neck jumpers tucked into trousers or skirts and floor grazing maxi dresses or even maxi trousers. And for ‘70’s disco dancing in the evening, bring out the super-high platforms and sexy hot pants, and maybe even a Studio 54 wig if you feel the urge!”

Denise Farrell, Brand Manager for Appletiser said, “Appletiser is a unique sparkling drink, made from 100% fruit juice and has no added sugars or colours, however the bright green bottle or can will allow you to add that burst of colour to any outfit.  Appletiser is the perfect drink for ladies on the go looking for a delicious and healthy thirst quencher and an easy, tasty way of squeezing in one of their five a day.”

The Appletiser StyleFIX tour stops off in Cork, Dublin, Sligo, Belfast and Blanchardstown. Look out for the dates in a centre near you or log on to facebook at www.facebook.com/AppletiserIreland for weekly updates.

APPLETISER MISS NORTHERN IRELAND HEATS GET FRESH FASHION FIX WITH STYLEFIX

05 April 2011

This Spring, three of Northern Ireland’s most hotly contested Miss Northern Ireland heats will see entertainment levels move up a notch as each of the events will also feature a stylish Appletiser StyleFIX fashion show to complement the pageant element to the evening. Appletiser StyleFIX has established itself right across the island of Ireland as a touring showcase of what’s hot in fashion each season as the events bring fresh style and grooming ideas to thousands of females on the tour.

Experts from Michele International Hair – also sponsors of Miss Northern Ireland – will join fashion and make up experts Cathy Martin and Paddy McGurgan, both on stage and behind the scenes, to give the professional models from the Alison Campbell model agency the finishing touches. And the contestants at the events are sure to learn a thing or two before going on stage to sell themselves to the judges.

Kieran McGuigan from Cafe Vaudeville said: “The Belfast heat for Miss Northern Ireland, which we host here at Cafe Vaudeville, is one of the busiest nights in our Spring calendar of events. And by adding the extra glamour of an Appletiser fashion show and style event, we’re really upping the ante on entertainment for those who come along to watch and support friends or family in the competition.”

Brian Morris from Sense Nightclub in Cookstown added: “We’re really looking forward to making a huge night out of the Miss Northern Ireland heat and the Appletiser StyleFIX show here in Cookstown, and we’re hoping our winner will go on to do really well in the competition and maybe we’ll see her in shows for Appletiser StyleFIX in the future!”

Michael McLaughlin from Bellini’s is delighted to be welcoming StyleFIX to Newry: “We hosted a StyleFIX event in November and it was very well received by locals and gave Newry retailers a great platform to showcase their fashions. Hosting it as part of our Miss Northern Ireland heat is the perfect icing on the cake for an already fantastic evening”.

Miss Northern Ireland director Alison Campbell said she is delighted to add the fashion show element to the heats saying: “Professional fashion shows with some of Northern Ireland’s top models will be a great learning tool for those who are entering the competition. They can watch how the models - many of whom are previous contestants and winners - are groomed and how they carry themselves. We’re really looking forward to meeting all of the contestants at all of the heats across the country and these shows will add an extra sprinkle of glamour and fun to the events.”

The events take place in Cafe Vaudeville, Belfast on Thursday 07 April, in Sense Nightclub, Cookstown on Thursday 28 April and in Bellini’s, Newry on Thursday 26 May. To enter Miss Northern Ireland, log on to www.missnorthernireland.com or call 02890809809.
