APPLETISER MISS NORTHERN IRELAND HEATS GET FRESH FASHION FIX WITH STYLEFIX

24 May 2011

This season, the Bellini’s heat of Appletiser Miss Northern Ireland will bring together fashion, style and beauty as it incorporates a stylish Appletiser StyleFIX fashion showcase to complement the hotly contested pageant element of the evening.  The event, on 26 May, will see the Appletiser StyleFIX team showcasing what’s hot in fashion as the events bring fresh style and grooming ideas to hundreds of females as well as scores of contestants.

Experts from Michele International Hair – also sponsors of Miss Northern Ireland – will join fashion and make up experts Cathy Martin and Paddy McGurgan, both on stage and behind the scenes, to give the professional models from the Alison Campbell model agency the finishing touches. And the contestants at the events are sure to learn a thing or two before going on stage to sell themselves to the judges.
Michael McLaughlin from Bellini’s is delighted to be welcoming StyleFIX to Newry: “We hosted a StyleFIX event in November and it was very well received by locals and gave Newry retailers a great platform to showcase their fashions. Hosting it as part of our Miss Northern Ireland heat is the perfect icing on the cake for an already fantastic evening”.
Miss Northern Ireland director Alison Campbell said she is delighted to add the fashion show element to the heats saying: “Professional fashion shows with some of Northern Ireland’s top models will be a great learning tool for those who are entering the competition. They can watch how the models - many of whom are previous contestants and winners - are groomed and how they carry themselves. We’re really looking forward to meeting all of the contestants at all of the heats across the country and these shows will add an extra sprinkle of glamour and fun to the events.”

The event will take place in Bellini’s, Newry on Thursday 26 May and the Miss NI final will take place on 13 June in the Europa Hotel.  To enter Miss Northern Ireland, log on to www.missnorthernireland.co.uk or call 02890809809. To attend the events, please contact the venue.   For show pictures visit  www.facebook.com/appletiserIreland

ABSOLUT and Belsonic: Clearly the Coolest Collaboration of the Summer

20 May 2011

ABSOLUT, well-known for its creative collaborations and innovative partnerships within the arts, continues this trend with the Belsonic partnership, one of the largest Northern Irish outdoor music events in history.  Many of the 2010 events sold out weeks in advance, with in excess of 40,000 people in attendance and both ABSOLUT and Belsonic organisers are confident that this popularity will be maintained at this year’s event, which sees renowned acts Elbow, The Specials, Primal Scream, Beady Eye and 30 Seconds to Mars taking to the stage.

Esther Small, Brand Development Manager for ABSOLUT commented: "ABSOLUT Vodka is delighted to be on board for Belsonic 2011, which takes the brand into the third year of a very successful partnership.  ABSOLUT is a contemporary and creative premium brand, the perfect match for the cutting edge and massively successful Belsonic event.  Last year ABSOLUT’s bars proved hugely popular at the Custom House Square festival, giving testament to the brand’s popularity among music lovers, and the event is set to go from strength to strength this year.”

The relationship between ABSOLUT and Belsonic further cements the Swedish vodka brand as pioneering and culture-shaping, with ground-breaking projects and collaborations.  For further information on the ABSOLUT Belsonic collaboration visit www.belsonic.com or www.facebook.com/absolutvodkani

Iconic ABSOLUT and Bradley Collaboration

17 May 2011

ABSOLUT vodka, one of the most iconic vodkas in the world, is well known for its creative collaborations and innovative partnerships within the arts; and in a move to focus on the talent in Northern Ireland, ABSOLUT has teamed up with contemporary artist Terry Bradley, a proven home grown household name.  In the last thirty years ABSOLUT has teamed with the most renowned artists, commissioning over 800 pieces by famed names such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Keith Haring, not to mention hundreds of designers and photographers.

Within the ABSOLUT Bradley collaboration, the Belfast-born artist has been commissioned to create three exclusive paintings over a period of two years, the first of which was completed recently and showcased a striking beauty with a sleeve of bold tattoos, including an ‘ABSOLUT 1879’ script on her upper arm.
This beautiful print has been given away in a number of on-trade events around Northern Ireland, which are set to continue until June.  One lucky winner at each event receives a coveted Terry Bradley print (retailing at circa £250) and a luxury ABSOLUT cocktail kit.  Each evening, the print is displayed in a locked display case within the bar and patrons are given a key for the display case after correctly answering three questions on an ABSOLUT quiz card.  One key each evening opens the display case and the lucky winner can take home their beautiful work of art.  There have already been 10 winners to date, and more to come.
Esther Small, Brand Manager for ABSOLUT in Northern Ireland, is very positive about the relationship saying, “Terry Bradley creates iconic images; his voluptuous, tattooed, women encapsulate the strong, resilient nature of the brand.  Likewise, ABSOLUT has a similar non-conformist and unorthodox approach, which means each brand compliments the other perfectly.  The print give away has been very successful to date and we are now beginning to look forward to the second exclusive ABSOLUT Bradley painting.”

The relationship between ABSOLUT and Bradley further cements the Swedish vodka brand as pioneering and culture-shaping, with ground-breaking projects and collaborations.  But this is by no means the first venture in which Bradley has swapped the canvas for a less traditional medium, as the artist’s work has previously been used in limited edition designs of a range of other things such as a painted cow for CowParade in Dublin, a Nokia phone cover, Irish Linen fabric for a fashion collection, skateboards, hand-painted jeans and the iconic glass doors which lead to the apartments in Victoria Square’s ‘Residence’ in Belfast.

Rethink Your Lifestyle This Spring

06 May 2011

‘Rethink Revamp Restyle’ will close the first phase of its workshop programme with an action-packed open day at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on 14 May.

Bringing together communities from across north, south, east and west Belfast the collective showcase event, sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s Rethink Waste campaign, will offer the public an insight of how easy it is to ‘rethink’ waste in the home.

The day will kick off at 11am with a talk by popular green blogger and yummy mummy Rebecca Volley. Known online as the Green Sheen Blogger, Rebecca will be giving mums tips on how to be green with tots in tow. Later in the afternoon she will be addressing a wider audience on how to actively reduce lifestyle waste with minimal hassle and cost.

Throughout the day visitors will be treated to demonstrations from local designers on how to rework old jumpers into cushion and hot water bottle covers, revamp furniture and revive textiles.

Guests can browse a 3D exhibition showcasing the work completed by participants during the eight week workshop programme and shop at the Home Souk market created for the occasion.

The project, delivered in association with Belfast City Council Waste Management saw the popular Fashion Souk deliver 40 workshops at centres across the city between March and May.

The Fashion Souk’s talented team of experts shared their top tips on restyling and refurbishing textiles and furniture. Fashion Souk Director Alyson McElroy said, “The Reuse ethos is at the heart of everything we do. This programme of workshops is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how easy it is to breathe new life into unwanted items and reduce waste to landfill.”

The Rethink Revamp Restyle event will take place on Saturday 14 May and will run from 11am - 5pm. Families are welcome and entry is free.

For more information on the event or workshops go to www.rethinkrevamprestyle.com or email workshops@rethinkvamprestyle.com

Elegant, Chic and Graceful´┐Żand that's just the horses!

04 May 2011

For the second year in a row The Down Royal Afternoon Teas brought fashionable flair to the May Day race meeting this year.  Adding to the already decadent and indulgence feel of race day, chic boutique Candy Plum, which is located in Hillsborough, showcased the hottest spring summer looks on some of Ireland’s top models, while guests enjoyed a traditional pre-race afternoon tea.

While savouring lavish nibbles and various teas, guests had a giggle, filled up on food and drinks and unwound before the stress of the races.  Pamela Ballentine was on hand to shed light on the racing system and gave guests her top tips on how to fill in their betting card.  To top off this fabulous afternoon, Franca Robinson was awarded Candy Plum’s ‘most stylish’ title and won an incredible £250 Candy Plum voucher.

Manager of Down Royal, Mike Todd, said, “I am delighted that for the second year in a row we gave guests the thrill of brand new, eye catching fashion coupled with exhilarating racing.  The blissful sunshine gave this May Day meeting the perfect summer excitement, and there was a real style buzz in the air as ladies donned their new summer attire!  Candy Plum’s styling was fabulous as always, and my staff were on hand to cater to each lady’s every whim, another winning combination for the perfect day at the races.”
