Art Competition Draws Inspiration from Athletes

30 July 2012

With massive sporting events like Wimbeldon, the Tour de France, the Open and of course the Olympics this summer, sport  fever is rapidly building up to a super-fan level; and to celebrate, healthy eating noodle chain Wagamama has teamed up with outdoor activity guide to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles, by inviting young people across NI to take part in ‘Doodle with Noodles’, an Olympic-inspired competition where the winner will enjoy a sporty day out, taking part in a healthy cooking class and various sporting activities.

The competition launch coincides with the opening ceremony for this year’s games on 27 July and will run until 12 August. Young people with a creative flare and passion for sport are invited to submit a sporting inspired picture incorporating noodles in some way.

Wagamama Belfast manager Sonia Lipton said, “We have a connection with lots of athletes and sporting talents inIreland, including the Irish Boxing Team, and have hosted cooking classes with them teaching the importance of a balanced diet. So taking inspiration from them as well as Wimbledon tennis players, Tour De France Cyclists and Olympic Athletes, we thought now was a great time to promote healthy eating and raise awareness of the importance of exercise amongst young people. The art competition is just a fun way of doing that and the use of noodles in the art just adds an extra noodle-y twist which makes it different from any other art competitions.”

There are two age categories with different prizes; the under 12 category winner will spend an exhilarating afternoon in the capable hands of Mobile Team Adventure, embarking on a fun family session of canoeing on the stunning Lagan Regional Park Valley; the teenager category winner (age 13–18) will take a spin around the city on a Belfast City Bike Tour with the family - a fun, eco-friendly tour with local guides showing the sites, some of which are only reachable by bike.

Chris Scott from is delighted with the competition collaboration, “There are lots of fun outdoor activities which can be enjoyed throughoutNorthern Irelandand the prizes offered for this competition give just a flavour of what’s on offer. We hope the lucky winners will have lots of fun taking part and maybe we’ll discover a future gold medalist!”

Before participating in the energy intensive activities, both prize winners and their families will be set up for the day with a cookery class hosted by Wagamama group trainer Juan Manteca. Feeling the heat in the kitchen of theVictoria Squarerestaurant, Juan will teach the families new healthy cooking techniques using fresh ingredients and interesting flavours, leaving them with satisfied tummies and an array of new dishes to continue cooking at home.

‘Doodle with Noodles’ is now open for free entry from 27 July and completed artwork should be submitted to the Wagamama restaurant in Belfast - Unit FFC6 Victoria Square Shopping Centre, Belfast BT1 4QG. All entries must include the name and age of the artist as well as contact details for the parent or guardian. Submitted artwork will be displayed in the restaurant until the competition closes on Sunday 12 August when the winners will be announced. For more information tel: 028 9023 6098

Appletiser StyleFIX set to sparkle in Athlone

17 July 2012

For the third year running, Appletiser StyleFIX has taken to the roads and is visiting shopping centres right across the island of Ireland with a fabulous runway show and beauty stations which offer stylistas a fabulous one-stop fashion-fix as they shop.  Lightly sparkling, natural fruit juice Appletiser has again teamed up with Ireland’s top shopping destinations and, following on from last month’s Cork show, is bringing StyleFIX to Athlone Towncentre (Saturday 21 July), Blanchardstown Centre (Saturday 29 September), and Quayside Shopping Centre, Sligo (Saturday 10 November).

Audience members at the event will enjoy high-impact fashion shows throughout their shopping Saturday where models will showcase a whole host of hot-to-trot summer trends on the catwalk.  With a super selection of stylish high street stores, Appletiser StyleFIX will have something to set every style aficionado’s heart racing.  From beachwear, sports luxe and cool summer whites to flamboyant florals, pretty pastels and enviable ethnic prints; no style fix will be left unsolved.  Those attending will also be able to sample delicious complimentary Appletiser while receiving free advice and pampering mini makeovers.

The Ireland shows also mark the launch of the Appletiser’s new handbag-sized bottle in June. Now lighter and more practical, Appletiser can fit into every girl’s lifestyle and bag when on the go.  Denise Farrell, Brand Manager for Appletiser comments: “Appletiser is a unique lightly sparkling drink, made from 100% fruit juice and has no added sugars or colours.  And summer afternoons just became all the more refreshing with our new, lightweight bright green bottle now available for ladies who are rushing from one meeting to another or are lucky enough to lunch at the local park, making it even easier to enjoy that magical fruit burst of Appletiser while still getting in one of their five a day.”

Stylist and show organiser Cathy Martin says fashionistas will have a lot to be tempted by while shopping.  “Summer has finally arrived and we’re ready to get out there and don the season’s latest trends.  Summer is going to be awash with powerful prints, soft, chic nudes and colour bursts such as candy apple red and fiery, burnt orange.  A 1970s floppy hat is a must and digital floral and painterly botanical looks make it big on dresses. For evening, the sexiest hot pants and minis are still very much on trend.”

Athlone Towncentre is the midlands’ largest shopping centre with over 60 top retail brands.  Located in the heart of Athlone, its unique design lets shoppers enjoy all the atmosphere of street boutique shopping without the unpredictability of the Irish weather.  With brands including M&S, Zara, H&M, River Island, Next and many more, Athlone Towncentre has something to cater for everybody and every occasion.

The Appletiser StyleFIX tour will be calling at Athlone, Belfast, Dublin, Derry and Sligo.  Look out for the dates in a centre near you or log on to facebook at for weekly updates.

Poolside glamour for Summer 2012 is hitting all the right notes with a wide selection of swimwear and accessories racing on to the high street shelves.  Some fantastic styles catching our eye this season are the sassy string bikini, the figure-hugging tankini and the alluring halter neck.

If you can’t wait to hit the coast with your beach-toned body, then the string bikini is for you – it’s sexy, cooler than ever and quite simply effortless.  Solid shades are still big this year and Calvin Klein’s classic grey bikini set (available from The OUTLET, Banbridge) is the perfect complement for those of us with soft sun-kissed skin.

For something more dramatic, patterned swimwear abounds this summer with styles ranging from flirty floral prints to exciting ethnic prints and sporty stripes. This abstract floral patterned bikini set from Calvin Klein at The OUTLET is fabulous for flattering small chests to give a fuller look. Ladies who are taller can benefit from the halter neckline too because it gives a longer torso look.

To play down any body flaws or draw attention away from your tummy area, the tankini is the way to go! Tankinis are more versatile than a swimsuit as you can mix and match away. Tall ladies can also benefit here when swimsuits are too short in the body. With matching folding briefs, this tankini from M&S at The OUTLET is in a stunning turquoise hue, and with moulded cups it is ultimately extremely flattering offering fabulous shape, support and comfort.
Try colour blocking with a sarong wrapped around the hips for accenting the waist and offering extra cover.  Add a 70’s style floppy hat, teal patent bag, a pair of wedges and tortoiseshell shades, and you’ve never been so beach ready!
