Sara O’Neill delves into the literary world for second solo exhibition

Following her highly successful first solo exhibition just last year, leading fashion stylist and now established artist Sara O’Neill is already back with her second body of work.  Sara continues her flourished flair for fashion illustrations in an exposition which sees her return to the roots of her love for the revolutionary, 19th century Pre-Raphaelite movement.  Inspired by fashion and literature, the collection of pictures entitled ‘Love Me to Death’ pays homage to the strength of the female character in the face of adversity.

Taking place from 7 – 9pm on Thursday 1 November 2012 at Frame of Mine Gallery, Ormeau Road, the show will comprise of thirteen detailed pencil drawings and mixed-media pieces to include watercolour and pastel, inspired by Sara’s work in the fashion industry and her devotion to detail.  There will also be a chance to avail of Sara’s limited edition prints and illustrated T-shirts on the night.

Guests attending the event can expect to see a range of delicate yet dramatic pieces, many featuring mesmerising, labyrinthian detail and script additions to give a rich, illustrative feel.  From themes of doomed love and tempestuous relationships to thrills and sensations and trials and tribulations, Sara has explored and visualised such works as ‘The Woman in White’, ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘Masque of the Red Death’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘Great Expectations’ and ‘Rebecca’.

Delighted to be returning with a whole new body of work, Sara comments, “I have adored creating every piece for this new collection.  I have experimented and morphed my love of classic and Victorian Gothic literature into a modern, fashion-led interpretation, each piece featuring a striking heroine who is living through, yet owning her individual cruel blow of ill-fate. ”

Since graduating from the University of Ulster with a BA Hons in Fashion and Textiles in 2004, Sara has established herself as one of Northern Ireland’s leading fashion stylists.  Her work regularly appears in magazines, TV, fashion shows and major ad campaigns. Pieces on the night will be sold at a range of prices up to £1,000 with sizes varying from 23x16in to 30x22in.  For more information on Sara visit www.saras-designs.co.uk

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR FASHION FANS

19 October 2012

Last night, Northern Ireland fashion fans had a double helping of catwalk glamour as West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK hosted not one, but two blistering hot catwalk events at the Europa FASHIONWEEK Centre.

Director of FASHIONWEEK Cathy Martin said:  “Last night went by in a blur of stunning outfits, gorgeous hair by Andrew Mulvenna and expertly applied make-up by Paddy McGurgan’s Make-up Academy team as over 20 stunning male, female and kiddie models took to the runway wearing the latest high street fashions.”

First up, in a dizzying display of chic outfits and accessories was CastleCourt with brands including Designers at Debenhams, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Burton, Wallis, Quiz and many more.

Camila McCourt, Marketing Manager from CastleCourt said:  “The CastleCourt brands which included Blue Inc, Internacionale, Quiz and Dune, amongst others, didn’t disappoint the hundreds who came to see the catwalk spectacular. Audience members got an up close and personal look at all of the upcoming autumn/winter fashions available in the centre – essential as we approach the party season.”

The fashion odyssey continued as the biggest high street brands in Northern Ireland made their mark.

Cathy continued:  “The packed out FASHIONWEEK Centre revelled in the fast paced High Street show as hundreds of outfit options glided elegantly along the catwalk to several gasps and a few cheers from the crowd.

“French Connection, Benetton, Marks & Spencer, Exhibit Clothing, and Jigsaw as well as George at ASDA and a range of high street lines from The Outlet in Banbridge including Oasis, Next Clearance, L.K. Bennett, Olsen and Staccato gave everyone a glorious snap shot of the winter ranges available to everyone in Northern Ireland.

“Fashionistas were busily making notes of favourite pieces they saw on the catwalk for themselves and for family and loved ones helping get those Christmas lists started early.”

Holly Harrison from Benetton said it was an exciting show. “We love being part of Belfast FASHIONWEEK. It’s so nice to be in the midst of the fashion buzz in the city; and we definitely do see more shoppers in the weeks after the event, so the pressure’s always on to get the collection just right for the show. I think we did a great job with our winter wools and knits.”

Nuala McShane, M&S Lisburn Womenswear Manager said: “Belfast FASHIONWEEK is the highlight of the style calendar in Northern Ireland and we are delighted to have been a part of the Autumn/Winter spectacular once again.  High Street night is the perfect platform for us to showcase our key seasonal collections to Northern Ireland’s fashionistas.  From statement outerwear to great value accessories, the new M&S Autumn/Winter collection ticks all the style boxes for the season ahead and we’ve showcased some of our affordable statement pieces, which will allow everyone to dress in the most up-to-the-minute catwalk trends.

And Maggie Jardine, regional manager of George Northern Ireland, said “Once again, FASHIONWEEK went beyond our expectations in setting an amazing backdrop against which to showcase our new George range. This season we wanted to present a range of affordable fashion which drew inspiration from leading catwalk trends such as pretty gothic and embellished separates- and we were overwhelmed by the positive reaction of the audience.”

Siobhan McKeown, Marketing Manager at The OUTLET, was delighted with the response from audience members:  “What a tour de force FASHIONWEEK proved to be last night.  The packed-out audience of fashion fans was not disappointed as wave after wave of luscious looks and slick styling was presented.  We look forward to welcoming ladies to The OUTLET where they can indulge their fashion habit and enjoy ‘luxe for less’ with up to 70% off the outfits they saw on the jet black winter catwalk.”

West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK continues tomorrow as designer emporium Cruise, based in Victoria Square, takes over The Merchant Hotel for a chic and intimate afternoon tea show. The show, which is already a sell-out, preceds the Saturday evening catwalk show back at the FASHIONWEEK centre, where models will showcase the very best in designs and collections from an exciting array of local designers – and a few up-and-coming guest designers based in London.
