The sound of 95 voices as Belfast Community Gospel Choir brings highly-anticipated show to the Waterfront Hall

17 April 2013

They’ve got soul, they’ve got passion and they’re about to blow audiences away at a one-night-only entertainment extravaganza; the Belfast Community Gospel Choir are getting ready to sing their hearts out at the Waterfront Hall on Saturday 1 June 2013 with their brand new show, ‘Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now!’

Formed in 2009, the Belfast Community Gospel Choir, led by the contagiously charismatic founder and director Marie Lacey, have been sharing the power of soul and energising fans across the country and further afield for almost 4 years now.

Just some of the choir’s many successes to date include taking part in the switching on of the Christmas Tree Lights at the Belfast City Hall to an audience of thousands, creating a social media storm with over 120,000 hits on YouTube following their flashmob gig at the City Airport as well as key performances at the opening of the Titanic Belfast Visitor Attraction, for the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee visit and at the 2012 Olympic Media Centre in London.

Marie has been overwhelmed by the journey that the choir have travelled and is really excited for what the future holds especially when it includes this rare opportunity at the Waterfront Hall to hear all 95 voices under one roof. She comments:  “My dream was to create a choir that, through unity, would spread the message of love, joy and peace and promote a positive image of Northern Ireland internationally. I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing our full choir, backed by an 11-piece soul band, to the surrounds of the Waterfront Hall. Expect lots of foot stomping, handclapping and joyful music. It’s going to be an unforgettable night!”

09 April 2013

Craigavon made the most of the recent Easter weekend and provided a day of entertainment and style heaven at not one, but two fabulous ‘Spring Made Stylish’ events in the town centres of Portadown and Lurgan.

Craigavon shoppers looked on as models strutted down the Town Centre Plazas draped in the wonderful wears of local boutiques in the area. Pop-up podiums allowed the models to pose as ‘live mannequins’ for a 360° showcase of the hottest spring/summer styles whilst spot prizes were awarded for best dressed. Throughout the day, shoppers were also treated to a hair demo from Peter Mark of Portadown and a tempting array of exclusive offers and special discounts from participating retailers.

A U105 Roadshow also hit both Town Centre Plazas featuring DJ favourites Julian Simmons and Johnny Hero whose music and chat created a buzz amongst the crowds whilst sensational Lurgan dance group, Vibe Dance Academy, performed to a stunned audience with their hip hop act. An über cool interactive fashion trail kept kids on their toes once on the hunt for a stolen handbag and some fantastic prizes. Belfast FASHIONWEEK director, Cathy Martin was also on hand to show them how to catwalk like a model.

Organised by Craigavon Borough Council as part of its ‘Full of the Joys of Spring’ campaign, discerning shoppers certainly experienced a fun-filled day of shopping, relaxation and inspiration.

EMERGING CREATIVE TALENT TO BRING A TOUCH OF STYLE, MUSIC & GLAMOUR TO STORMONT

03 April 2013

Some of Northern Ireland’s top emerging fashion and musical talent will be showcasing their skills at a fashion and music extravaganza in the beautiful and opulent surroundings of the Parliament buildings at Stormont on Saturday 04 May.

The chic black tie event, which is being organised by Unify Collective Fashion Studio and sponsored by Aston Martin, Belfast, will provide a unique platform for both graduate and student designers to showcase their collections while also introducing the audience to musical entertainment from up and coming local bands.  All profits made from the evening will go towards Cinemagic, a charity supporting young people wishing to enter the film industry.

Unify studio manager and designer David Henderson said they are delighted to be given such a beautiful and historic platform to showcase the talent of local designers and musicians:  “The current economic climate makes it hard for talented designers to gain employment and engage with retailers to nurture their careers as trading designers, but at Unify we really aim to change this.

“The Unify Fashion Showcase will be a collaboration of many young and established creative individuals within the fashion and music industry in Northern Ireland. We hope to highlight this artistic talent by creating a night to remember of high-fashion and entertainment in aid of 'Cinemagic' which also helps future creatives from the media industry, so all in all our event is creatives helping creatives, helping creatives!"

The invitation to hold the Unify Fashion Showcase at Stormont came from Basil McCrea MLA who is a strong supporter of Unify Fashion Studio, which provides local designers with a professionally fitted design studio including the best equipment and materials available, enabling young Northern Irish designers to hone their talents.  BBC Radio Ulster presenter and self-confessed fashion fan, Alan Simpson will host the evening.

Given the natural affinity that exists between the worlds of bespoke fashion and hand crafted sports cars, Aston Martin, Belfast are the perfect partner to sponsor the event.

John West at Charles Hurst Aston Martin commented: “Unify Northern Ireland and Aston Martin are a natural partnership, where both provide discerning customers with a tailor-made experience, not just in terms of their amazing products, but also through the exemplary levels of service customers can expect to experience. It’s our pleasure to support this fantastic event.”

Lucky audience members who snap up a ticket will see emerging fashion designers Shauna Fay, Kam Kouture by Kiera Anne Marie Phillips, David Henderson, Barry Devine, Mariana O’Reilly, Sinead Laverty and House of Hannigan feature their covetable pieces for autumn/winter 2013 throughout various rooms of the building.  A selection of up and coming student designers from Belfast Metropolitan College will also be given a segment of the evening to showcase their work along with  jewellery and millinery designers B’Jewelled Bridal, Melanie Bond and Aura. Guests can relax and unwind with live music, a DJ set, food and drink right through to midnight before taking home a fabulous goodie bag at the end of the evening.

Children’s charity Cinemagic has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in children’s programming and is currently the largest film event of its kind for young people in Ireland and the UK. Designed for and by young people the organisation caters for creative youngsters (aged 4 to 25) with just about every level of interest in film, whether to watch and enjoy, create their own work or take things a stage further and find out more about a career in the film or television industry.

Joan Burney Keatings, Chief Executive of Cinemagic said they are delighted to be working in partnership with an initiative that supports young creative talent, she said: “Cinemagic's ethos is to educate, motivate and inspire young people through the creative industries. We really appreciate the effort involved in organising this event which is supporting the work of Cinemagic and enabling opportunities for young people."

The Unify Fashion Showcase will take place on Saturday 04 May with a drinks reception at 7pm with food served from 8-10pm. Tickets cost £30 each and are available through Unify and supporting shops (david@unifyni.com/ www.unifyni.com 028 9023 6452)
