West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK kick started celebrations for its twenty-fifth season in a spectacular opening night runway show at St Anne’s Cathedral last night.

The opening show, featuring collections from local designers and designer boutiques, sees the start of a four day schedule of catwalk shows and fringe events erupting with colour and creativity. Guests witnessed some show-stopping pieces from FASHIONWEEK favourites Blush Boutique, Grainne Maher, Jourdan and Nor Lisa as well as eye-catching ensembles from designers Anthea McNeill and Ruedi Maguire.

Trends ranged from soft pastels and dusty tones, to texture clashes in monochromes, bright blues and lavish prints. There was also a nod towards the 80s and 90s as fashion got nostalgic with dramatic silhouettes and nipped waistlines.

Following the stunning displays of local talent, FASHIONWEEK Director Cathy Martin said “At FASHIONWEEK we want to acknowledge and celebrate what we have right on our doorstep and I am sure everyone will agree that there was some incredible creative talent on the catwalk - it is an honour that they choose our platform at FASHIONWEEK to showcase their collections.”

The top picks from the High Street and online will showcase tonight, 23 March, and will include Boux Avenue lingerie, Remus Uomo, Designers at Debenhams, Next, Oasis, The Boulevard and Zara, as well as a whole host of amazing looks from retailers including, ASOS, Boohoo, M&S and TopShop plus Miss Selfridge, Karen Millen and Misguided, among others, in the Director’s Cut collection, styled by Cathy Martin.

Also returning this season on Saturday 24 March are the popular fringe events - The F Words, a brunch at Babel which celebrates Fashion, Fitness, Food and being Female, with speakers including Instagrammers Tiffany Brien, Kim Constable and Fiona McCarten (Gluten Free Fi) as well as Sushi Saturday, a lavish lunch at Asian eatery Zen.

FASHIONWEEK also steps out of Belfast for part of the weekend as the team relocates to The Boulevard in Banbridge (formerly The OUTLET) for an afternoon to showcase spring style at the newly named centre.  The mall has recently enjoyed a revamp, with a brand new illuminated roof which provides a sheltered walkway, allowing shoppers to enjoy the centre, whatever the weather.

As usual the incredible schedule will finish in sumptuous style on Sunday 25 March with Style Sunday at James Street South, in association with Blush Boutique and in support of charity Action Cancer. The four course lunch will have some fantastic fashion on show as well as a make up masterclass between courses which will be held by Paddy McGurgan. As usual, all events will offer  refreshing West Coast Cooler cocktails on arrival.
